The Mutton Snapper is a common snapper and can be found from Florida to South America. One of the most colorful of the snappers, its most distinguishing feature is a black spot located on the middle of the back. Mutton snappers can be found in shallow waters, on sandy flats and on the deepest reefs. The coloration can vary considerably, from light tan to medium red. Mutton are OK to eat.
